OCR: girl in the revue who was dull on stage but hysterically funny in the dressing room telling stories in character. Lily told her she ought to be performing that material on stage. However, the girl would then "pull herself up-literally, her hair would kind of electrify-and she'd get all kind of perfect and pretty again and say, 'I wouldn't want anyone to think I was unattractive." Lily said this girl was a perfect example of the widely held belief that somehow, if a woman did stand-up, she would lose her femininity. During the summer, I photo- graphed Lily again at San Francisco's Golden Gate Theater. She had already completed the film version of Search and was briefly staging the play again in case they needed further live shots or exteriors to weave into the movie.
